Bubsy 3D takes the wisecracking bobcat into the third dimension for a PlayStation platforming adventure that became infamous for all the wrong reasons. Trapped on the alien planet Rayon, Bubsy must explore colorful 3D levels, collect atoms and rockets, defeat enemies, and find a way back home. The game was ambitious for its time, but awkward tank-style controls, tricky jumping, a frustrating camera, sparse environments, and repetitive gameplay make even basic platforming a challenge. Bubsy’s goofy personality and bizarre world give it some retro charm, but Bubsy 3D remains a notoriously rough example of early 3D platforming.
